In a world where innovation constantly pushes the boundaries of technology, Aftershokz has taken a unique approach with its OpenRun Conduction Headphones. These headphones promise a different auditory experience, using bone conduction technology to deliver sound while keeping you aware of your surroundings. This comprehensive review delves into every aspect of the Aftershokz OpenRun headphones, analyzing their audio quality, ease of use, battery life, overall quality, value for money, and more. By the end of this review, you’ll have a clear understanding of whether these headphones are the right fit for your needs.

How does Shokz OpenRun sound?

The SHOKZ OpenRun are high-quality bone conduction headphones that use PremiumPitch 2.0+ and provide more than fine sound quality. The transducers in such headsets are positioned at an optimal angle against the cheekbones, making overall a more comfortable experience. The OpenRun’s frequency response, even with PremiumPitch 2.0+, reproduces almost little sub-bass because of the fit. You can still make out bass, midrange, and treble, but bass heads should look elsewhere.

But, once again, the sound delivery and performance of the headphones depend on how they’re placed around your head. In my experience listening to podcasts marathon, the sound came through as if listening to live podcasts, even when I moved around the room doing my chores.

Can I use Shokz OpenRun for phone calls?

The audio volume of the Aftershokz OpenRun headphones is satisfactory, allowing users to enjoy their audio content without interruptions. We appreciate that we can listen to audiobooks for extended periods without fatigue.

Shokz OpenRun for phone callsShokz claims to offer 8-hours of talk-time on its OpenRun.

And now, to answer the question, is the pair good for having a phonic conversation? Yes. The Shokz OpenRun may be used for making phone calls, although the microphone quality is subpar. Talking and walking in windy conditions sends a lot of extra noise to the other person, which can be annoying. Call quality is fine if you’re calling from a quiet location. Check out the sound clip we’ve provided below.

With the dual noise-cancelling microphones, you won’t have to interrupt your workouts just to answer your phone. You shouldn’t have trouble taking such calls, albeit the quality won’t be excellent.

However, a few reviews mention the volume being a bit low. It’s important to note that the bone conduction technology might result in slightly different audio experiences than traditional headphones.

Is Shokz OpenRun’s bass output any good?

The Shokz OpenRun headphones might be better for those who enjoy bass-heavy music. While the headphones offer a well-rounded audio experience, the emphasis is not on bass. This could be a limitation for users who prioritize strong bass output. However, the headphones’ unique design and features might compensate for this shortfall for some users.

Is Shokz OpenRun user-friendly?

The OpenRun’s rounded ends and neckband design make confusing it with a standard set of neckbands easy. The superior Shokz OpenRun Bone Conduction supersedes the AfterShokz Aeropex.

The two headphones’ construction, comfort, and sound performance are equally impressive. The only distinguishing feature of the OpenRun is its Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. So, with that being said, OpenRun is a rebranding of its predecessor, AfterShokz Aeropex headphones.

Shokz OpenRun user-friendlyThe user-friendly, sweat-proof design makes it ideal for outdoor activities.

If you’ve used the Aeropex by AfterShokz before, you’d know the OpenRun headphones weigh the same as the Aeropex and have the same IP67 waterproof rating. These headphones have a neckband design and are great for jogging or any other type of physical activity because of their lightweight and compact build. Their structure makes it convenient to fit any size of noggin and feel equally comfortable and lightweight.

How is the Battery Performance of Shokz OpenRun?

The Shokz OpenRun has the potential to lengthen the time between charges significantly. Eight hours of music playback and chat time is provided. Also, instead of needing two hours to charge fully, it just needs one and a half.

It offers an hour of playback music with just 15 15-minute quick charge.
We tested the headphones at the gym to find out that if you play it for an hour a day at the gym or run for around the same length of time, you can use the OpenRun for almost an entire week without charging it.

While in the past, Shokz headphones’ actual battery lives were shorter than their advertised ones, they seem to have particularly upgraded their battery performance in OpenRun. So if you keep your headphones plugged into sockets or mostly forget to recharge them, the 15-minute quick charge must be a plus.

Rate the Overall Quality of Shokz OpenRun

Customers consistently praise the build quality of the AfterShokz OpenRun Conduction Headphones. We find it well-built and durable, highlighting their sturdiness during various activities outdoors to the park or traveling, as well as indoors. You will get a premium feel when you pick up these headphones and put them on.

Shokz seems to have designed their OpenRun, keeping the user’s convenience in mind. While some feedbacks have reported issues like button malfunction or sweat residue intercepting the control functions, these seem to be exceptions rather than the norm. We’d rate the pair an 8 out of 10, as the headphones appear to be a quality product that aligns with AfterShokz’s reputation for delivering reliable audio accessories.

Is It Worth The Price it Costs?

When it comes to value for money, opinions among users are divided.

However, there are also concerns about the price point, with a few reviews labeling them pricey. Their audio quality, ease of use, and impressive battery life make them versatile for various activities. While some users have concerns about the cost, we found the price point justified by quality, features, design, and usability.
